= Preferred Managed VPS Provider = IâÂÂm currently using a 4GB VPS through InMotion hosting that I grabbed for a great promo price about 3 years ago. ItâÂÂs set to expire in a few months and start running about $60/month. IâÂÂm deciding whether to stay here or look for potential alternatives. After using shared servers for years (and never getting great performance or page speed no matter how optimized the website was), IâÂÂd rather just stick with reliable resources and custom panel options For users that use a VPS, what companies do you prefer? What makes them the best performance to price ratio? Mainly just because IâÂÂm not confident in pure command line management. Having somebody knowledgeable manage security, certificates, troubleshooting if issues arise, and the time factor in completing those instead of working on the actual business based around the sites hosted on said server. IâÂÂm fairly certain my configuration would get hacked in record time due to incorrectly established settings somewhere I agree completely with what he replied I am curious though, how hard is it? ItâÂÂs always seemed intimidating to me from talking to others early on when I got involved in hosting; seems time consuming and risky. I can code, although I donâÂÂt do it full time; I am self taught. IâÂÂm no expert, but I am pretty good for someone who doesnâÂÂt work in hosting/development full time. IâÂÂm curious how much time I would have to invest to learn how to manage a VPS properly? Even with unmanaged, there is a great deal of automation, backups, cron and security tools that do it all for you. Some of which are free, others billed monthly On my unmanaged VPS I run cPanel, CloudLinux, Kernelcare, Imunify360 and Jetbackup all of which facilitate most managed services automatically at half the price most providers charge You wonâÂÂt get many reviews here on Reddit most people are just going to tell you get a unmanaged do droplet and do it yourself lol That is definitely the techy way for sure and much cheaper as you donâÂÂt have to pay for others time to manage it. I have to spend the majority of time managing other aspects related to a business though. Droplets and bare metal servers are probably not the most advantageous use of time for me Get oracle cloud free tier with 24gb ram and 4 cores with 200gb storage vps for free I googled Breezehost and the first item was a company in Nigeria. Ideally want to keep my choices US based. Do you have US suggestions? Do not advertise or self promote your own services. Reddit sells ads for a reason, use them I came across this post by looking for somewhere to ask this exact question. I feel the same exact way as you do about having a managed VPS; the time it would take it manage it and the risk involved as you mentioned, makes it worth paying more for managed services. Running a business is all about learning to delegate tasks, and focus on what actually makes you money I used a company called EboundHost from 2008-2019, and terminated it; but I am looking to purchase a VPS again. IâÂÂm shopping around before making a decision. Ebound offered great support, great prices, but I wasnâÂÂt impressed with the performance quite as much IâÂÂm tempted to try a more well known company like GoDaddy but IâÂÂm scared I may regret it; and would love recommendations with explanations or even advice Yes, the people posting to get an unmanaged server definitely have more time and skill than I can apply from a technical standpoint IâÂÂve really liked my current host, but the cost increase is steep. The part that irks me the most though is new customers get the server I have for $19/month for 3 years. IâÂÂm tempted to back everything up, cancel my renewal, and then just signup under another account to reclaim another 3 years. They offered me a 5% discount to renew on my current account, thatâÂÂs going to increase by over 150%. Absolutely wild Be careful of companies like Godaddy, their priced a lot higher than comparable managed providers. That initial price looks cheap but once it renews the rate goes way up.
