= Wordpress hosting or shared hosting? =

I am creating a blog in wordpress and looking for a hosting service, finally decided to use Dreamhost. Anyone can explain me the difference between shared and wordpress? Usually in other hosting services Wordpress hosting is more expensive

Most "Wordpress Hosting" plans are just a marketing gimmick

Pretty much any hosting service can work with Wordpress. I host mine on a shared host and from the hosting admin panel, I installed the Wordpress using the "1 click install wizard". If shared is cheaper, go with that one

I use a hosting service that is runned by a fellow Redditor and have had 0 complaints about it for the last 2 years. $120/y but since you're just starting, go with the basic plan which is like $5/y

Thanks! I installed Wordpress in localhost a few times so I guess I will have no issues with shared host but maybe if the price is the same I have some aditional features like Wordpress dedicated customer service or autoupdates for plugins. Do you know if I can run a html, css and js site with Wordpress hosting?
when you go to wordpress.com , you will get whatever.wordpress.com (whatever representing whatever username you pick), you are advertising wordpress.com
Self-hosting (what you think is shared hosting) you can get your own domain and be less restrictive than wordpress.com, also more professional

when you go to wordpress.com , you will get whatever.wordpress.com
This is only true for the free WordPress.com plan. If you are on a paid plan, you have the option of using a custom domain name

Dreamhost is absolutelygo with namecheap if you want to hear nightmare stories about dreamhost head over to r/webhosting
The major difference between general hosting and "WordPress" hosting comes down to support and maintenance. Most "WordPress" only hosts tend to have high quality support who understand WordPress. They tend to add a lot of optimizations for WordPress as well (cache setups being common)

However, you are not going to get these benefits with a large host such as Dreamhost. It is because larger companies don't tend to have "human" support. But if you look at offerings by companies like Kinsta, Flywheel, Hustly - it's incredibly well packaged WordPress with very high quality support. Yes, some of their plans can be expensive, but you get what you pay for

The big advantage of "managed WordPress hosting" like WordPress.com or WPengine is that you get a WordPress specific support team and don't have to worry about site security or updates. This can save both your time and your(if youup somewhere)

If you don't need those things, then you may find it a better deal to purchase basic shared hosting from whatever your favorite webhost is

I've had 25 years in the business. By all means, stick with a cheap host. If you are hosting a simple blog / new blog and you don't need to use too many plugins, by all means, stick with it. But let me warn you. If you install too many plugins and an advanced theme, WordPress will become bloated and will grind to a halt if you are on a cheap shared hosting plan. Also, please don't try to create a BuddyPress community or anything like that using a cheap plan. It can get. Hosting directly on WordPress dot com is plain expensive. And not any more reliable than most of the other big names out there. Trust me I've tried them all If you tell me what you plan to do, I can make the right suggestion. A long time ago. i moved away from cheap shared hosting after a complete disaster. i moved to dedicated hosting, which was overkill, and cost way too much. in the end, I settled on a VPS. But more on that another time, perhaps

By the way Dreamhost is highly rated. Good support i think. Although its been about 10 years since i used them Watch out for the pricing. Its all in the small print
