= Want to replace all my managed game servers with one unmanaged dedicated =

Hello,

I currently have the following game servers being hosted

Rust (8GB)

Minecraft (6GB)

ARK (8GB)

In total I pay about 25-30USD per month for these 3 servers. I would like to try and see if I could attain the same performance/cost on my own unmanaged dedicated server. This would then either allow me to host some additional games, a web server etc. or it would allow me to cut down on some costs (I hope).

I'm trying to find an east coast US/CA server (players from both US and EU connecting) to ensure as many people have a playable ping as possible. Currently all the above servers are hosted in New York.

I really appreciate the time anybody takes to respond, thank you.

Update: Just incase it wasn't clear, I'm looking for a dedicated server host, not a management panel.

I’m pretty happy with httpspterodactyl.io/ Once you had it installed, you can add servers, manage allowed users, etc. It’s pretty much managed server at home

This is the solution. Pterodactyl is used by managed hosting companies as well, and while it's far from perfect, it's definitely good enough for most users.

"Pterodactyl runs on a wide range of operating systems"

Choices are Linux, Linux or Linux. lol

Nothing against, it, just found that humorous.

There is absolutely no chance you will cut down on costs from the current $25-30 you pay. You're already paying really good prices honestly, you're barely above $1/GB. Very few places offer dedicated servers under $60, much less under $25.

*Especially* not places on the US east coast (which is generally an in-demand area for server hosting specifically because it's closest to Europe among other reasons).

I assume you asked here because you couldn't find a host in your price range on your own, and for good reason. It simply does not make economic sense to offer a dedicated server that cheap.

I'm running an Ark server in a vm right now. It's running just fine, allocated with 2 cores and 16gb of ram. CPU is an i5-6500T.

If you're willing to self host, this could be an option.

Cost wise, it depends on whether you can get the idle power consumption down and your local electricity costs. For example:

*+365+days%2Fyear240.25%2FkWh+in+%24%2Fmonth

So my server costs me at least $9.125/month to run0.25/kWh is the

*minimum* I pay, depending on time of year and time of day.

Hi,

if you are looking to dedicated hosting in europe, i would recommend hetzner.de

But if you have players from EU and US too, I think there will be ping problems at any hosting.

I use Hetzner, I've also used OVH and SoYouStart. Check out Hetzner auctions for a discounted rate. It's unlikely you'll save money, especially if you're wanting to use Windows and don't have MSDN or a license key.

When buying a dedicated server, avoid resellers and "Game Service Providers" because they'll obviously have their own markup since they're renting from one of the aforementioned three, or another data center. Also, by avoiding GSPs, you avoid the risk of them not paying the bill since you're paying the provider directly. This happened once with Vilayer when they didn't pay the provider and then their support team essentially dodged all and any support tickets that day due to theirup.

for dedicated hosting i prefer and recommend Choopa httpswww.choopa.com

for VPS/cloud hosting i prefer and recommend Choopa's services Constant/Vultr -- httpswww.constant.com/ -- httpswww.vultr.com

there isn't anyone who compares to what Choopa/Constant brings to the table. i've been using them for years and, fun fact, their Piscataway, New Jersey datacenter even stayed online 100% during hurricane Sandy.

you might find that some of your current services are actually hosted in this very data center. why not go straight to the source? :)
