= Should I host a guard / middle relay or a bridge? Just started using Tor, and want to contribute. I will be hosting from home using a dedicated computer running windows 10 pro. =
I would highly recommend to use an OS other than Windows for that. Windows is still better than running no relay, but it really is a bad option for privacy, security and pretty much really everything else
For the type of relay it depends. For a bridge you need a static IP address and high uptime for a longer period of time. Usually a guard is a good way to get started
Beidge / Relay you won't have any problem. As long as you don't do an exit node everything will be fine. Bridge will help those who have blocked tor access. Middle relay will help route traffic in tor network but without exposing your IP
The choice is yours. In both cases you can rest easy and you will contribute. If you create a middle relay keep in mind that gb/s tb/s of traffic are used each month. Check your internet plan
Is there a certain type that is needed more? Also, Internet plan is a steady 200mbs with no cap so I assume thatâÂÂs fine
First of all you don't want to use Windows for that. Uninstall thatand install a Linux OS like Kubuntu if you want a desktop environment
Secondly hosting a relay from home will work, but be aware that some sites will block your home IP. If you don't want that host an obfs4 bridge instead
IâÂÂm not too knowledgeable about this, but I assume that a VPN for personal traffic would resolve any blocking issues?
Windows adds variety to the network which is good as I understand it
You can always run a snowflake in your browser as well.
