= Does time pass on a Valheim dedicated server? =

So I was thinking of making a Valheim dedicated server running on a Linux machine. But before I do I was wondering if time passes in the game while no one is playing. and if time does pass is it possible to get raided?

We have one running and time does not pass unless someone is playing. I’m not sure if all servers run that way, however

Did you use a guide somewhere to set it up this way? Could you link it or tell me what to Google? I only know how to basically leave it on all the time

Time only passes while someone is playing. Raids only occur where a player is. You can set up a server with peace of mind that you won't log back on to see your nice base overrun by trolls

You can however log in on your own and get assaulted by an army of trolls, and then your friends will come back to find a trashed base and a pile of your corpses. Had that happen. Sad times

Other replies here are correct, time only passes if a player isn't logged on. Worth mentioning that if someone logs off during an event, the event will pause, but will resume as soon as another player is within (I think) 200m

So if you logged off as awas rampaging through your base, and any other player comes within 200m while you're logged out, the thewill continue to rampage at your base

I’m sure you have the instructions in front of you, OP but here is this. If you have docker, setup is a breeze. Even the manual instructions are a snap. Do it to it my friend!

When no one is on, it goes into stasis, IF there are no events happening

We had an incident on ours where only 1 person was on, he decided to go around visiting people’s bases. Most were warded and he couldn’t get access but one was not

While he was there, aevent happened. He panicked and logged out, leaving the event running and the server running

When I logged back in the next day, no one had been on since and I was suspicious immediately because all of my lights and fires were burned out across my entire compound, which is massive

Took a look at the map, and sure enough, there was a raid going up north, so I had to go up there andthem, and the event finally ended properly

Their entire base was destroyed

I had a similar situation, but the event didn’t stay active when I logged off. However, it was waiting on me when I logged back in later on

This was on a dedicated server as well

Time will continue to pass, so things like crops and trees willraids and taming require a player to be present. So you don't need to worry about coming back to a destroyed home, just fully grown crops

Are you 100% that this is accurate?
We are using a dedicated server with default settings and no mods and time totally stops when the last player leaves. We can go offline for multiple IRL days and come back to plants not grown yet, piggys not fully matured, etc. The dedicated server itself is up

Time freezes as soon as all players have logged out. Game days will not advance, smelters will not run, windmills will not make flour, crops will not mature, none of that will happen unless at least one player is logged in to the world
