= Wordpress Managed Hosting? =

I own a home service business and my contract with my web people is up, so Ive been given the option of moving my website to my own hosting, or continuing to pay them a monthly fee to manage the website. I know Wordpress itself isnt super difficult to manage, but I was curious of a few things; Whats the difference between "WP Managed Hosting", such as WPX, and a normal hosting provided such as Siteground or one of the host suggested in the sidebar? Also our traffic isnt anything crazy, around 1k visitors monthly, but we do have a fair amount of plug ins and alot of automations with Zapier(which I am not super familiar with). Things that are important to me are automatic backups, fast and reliable. If I move the hosting away from them I will need to make and pay for a Zapier account as well to keep my current automations ongoing, so I am also taking that into consideration. And just because I know it will get asked, they want $150/monthly to continue to host and manage the website. Looking forward to any recommendations or things maybe I have not considered

What is your monthly budget?
$150
Where are you/your users located?
USA, Florida to be more specific

What kind of site are you hosting (Wordpress, phpBB, custom software, etc) or what is your use case?
Wordpress. Small home services business

Do you have a monthly traffic volume? Estimates are ok

1k visitors monthly

If you’re looking at VPSes: Do you have experience administrating linux servers and infrastructure?
Did you read the sidebar/check out the hosts listed there? I've personally vetted these companies and their services are a good fit for 99% of people

Yes

I am using KnownHost managed wordpress for one of my site. It is good so far. You can also check the sidebar for more recommendations. Good luck

Managed hosting varies from provider to provider, but in my mind should cover at
*least* the following:
Scalability
Reliability
Pluginupdate management
Backups
Security
There are other nice to have features such as:
Staging site
Roll backs
I'd note that $150/month sounds a little on the side of expensive

This is oversimplifying it but..

Do you want to troubleshoot an issue yourself if you run into any problems? Are you technical and understand how to setup and maintain your site. If not, and you just want to contact support to deal with it, and make sure it works flawlessly, that's when premium managed hosting comes into play

Certain premium managed hosting is a joke, though WPengine, Flywheel, and Kinsta all offer really good managed WordPress

Based on your budget, the $25 or $50 WPEngine plans would more than suffice

You could go the siteground or another host route, just make sure they have those features you want included or for an additional fee like:
Daily and Monthly Backups (and for how long?) Security Support if your site is hacked. Fast support responses to tickets, maybe a guaranteed response time too. Generous Resources, especially if your site gets a burst of traffic. Fast Servers A good reputation - review sites are mostly shams, but search reddit for a web host and you might find some legit reviews
