= Need help setting up a Valheim dedicated server, having some issues =

Hey all,
So I am trying to set up a Valheim dedicated server, but I can't seem to make it work. I don't even know if I did the Port Forwarding right, so let's start there

Here is my current Port Forwarding Edit. Does this look right, or do I have to change the WAN interface or protocol? I could not find anything about it, apparently

I've downloaded the Valheim Dedicated Server from steam, copied start_headless_server and named it start.bat, and changed the name, the port to 2456, world is the world we wanna use, and a password. Sounds good? Also, should I start the server by clicking Launch Valheim Dedicated Server, or find the files and start start.bat?
And then finally, when trying to add the server on steam, that's where the problem comes. I've added 10.0.0.93:2456, but it just says "< not responding >" below game

Thanks for the help

EDIT: Forgot to add the imgur link..

Hey, first off Valheim uses UDP, not TCP. I think you need to forward the port which you specified in the config +1. In your case it's 2456 and 2457. I'm a bit surprised with your server IP address. Are you sure it's 10.0.0.93? Is this server on your home network? Most vendors use a class C private IP on their devices as a default LAN subnet (something like 192.168.X.X). Either way, if you want to add it on steam (which I never did when I hosted a server so I don't know how exatly it is done) you definitely have to specify the public IP address, not your actual IP address on your home(private) network (read up on NAT/PAT on wikipedia)

Since all 3 of you talked about the IP address, here is what shows when I do ipconfig: httpsi.imgur.com/TkvO4dN.png

There's two IPs to use here. Port forwarding uses your private network IP. Open command prompt and type ipconfig. It's normally 192.168.x.x. As others mentioned you need to allow UDP traffic on multiple ports not just the one

To connect to the server in valheim though, you use the public ip. Google what's my public ip address and the first result will tell you. Connect in valheim using that plus :2456
You can start the server either with the bat file or via steam, either work. I've never heard of renaming the .bat file, not sure if that would cause issues

I just made a copy and renamed that one, because this guide said I should do that

I personally used this guide to set up my dedicated server. I don't use the steam server list so can't help you you there. I Always use the connect ip option in Valheim itself. When I'm on the same network I fill in the local IP (no port needed if default port is used), so in your case the 10.x.x.x IP. Friends that are not on your network will need to fill in your public IP. As someone else pointed out, you can just google "what's my ip". Fyi, depending on your ISP, public IP's can change. If you want to make it easy and assingn a domain to your IP, you can set it up pretty easy with some free dns service like no-ip.com
Sounds like other people have got you sorted on the port forwarding issue. For the "not responding" when adding the server to Steam, here's what has worked for me:
Make sure your Valheim dedicated server is running. In Steam, go View > Servers, and hit the Favorites tab. Click "Add a Server". Enter Your.server.IP.address:2457 (port 2457, not 2456) and click "Find games at this address". When it finds your server, click "Add selected server to favorites." Done!
As for managing your new dedicated server, I'll just link a reply I made earlier, with some tips on how I do it. (Basically the second half of that comment.)
Oh, that worked wonders! Another weird thing now is that I have it added, and it say's its online; however, my servers still show the old one I tried, and some other server, both not responding. When i click refresh though, it shows the server and not the others for a little bit, then disappears again. Kinda weird, but it doesn't seem to matter, as I can connect now

IT Consultant here, running a dedicated server instance in my datacenter space. PM me if you have any questions about hosting your own server

We used httpslinuxgsm.com/servers/vhserver/ on Ubuntu LTS, external IP with SNAT on firewall to a private vLAN address

These are the ports we opened: 2456-2458 UDP/TCP

I have not been using any port specifications in my connection to the server, just the public IP

Server has been solid, no issues at all with the packages or command line tools, just need to patch periodically

Cheers!
