= Which concept for selling Wordpress hosting services? (i.e. ServerPilot vs VirtualMin) =
I'm spinning up Wordpress hosting for a handful of sites I have now, and will expand over time as I gain clients. My company builds wordpress websites, and will provide hosting for those sites. I'm using Digital Ocean, and trying to determine between using something like ServerPilot or RunCloud vs something like VirtualMin or CPanel
Here are some of my requirements:
Provide shared hosting on LEMP stack
Provide no frills email hosting (for small, local businesses only)
Support for scale, especially for eCommerce sites (built on WooCommerce)
Schedule OS updates, virus scans
Let's encrypt for SSL/TLS
Support up to 50 or so Wordpress sites
Ability to spin up a dedicated DO VPS for certain clients (which would require a new instance of VirtualMin for that server)
My thinking is around what's better to invest my time in for learning over the long term. I spun up a ServerPilot account and created a site pretty quickly - it was simple. I have used Webmin in the past (which VirtualMin is a derivate of, I think) to manage linux servers I have at home. Both are fairly easy, and I'm not afraid of the CLI at all, and have competence there, but I also understand the value dashboards bring in terms of observability and manageability
My main questions are, will ServerPilot/RunCloud present limitations down the road (near-ish term). Will VirtualMin present roadblocks or risks that ServerPilot will address for me?
I am not building websites (my partner is), my role is to provide and support hosting, and I'm doing this as a side-hustle
Thoughts?
Gridpane is currently the best CP for WP. SpinupWP pretty good too. Runcloud isnâÂÂt bad but lack of WP specialization shows
None of them will handle email hosting, and I strongly recommend you donâÂÂt waste your time on it. Not worth the support burden
Scaling is an entirely different topic and depends on the level of scale needed. For what youâÂÂre likely talking about, a single VM will probably scale up to support your woocommerce needs
Beyond that, youâÂÂd have to look into dedicated servers or clustered solutions

when you say "dont waste my time on it" - do you mean email hosting or WP hosting? I've since setup a server running VirtualMin, created a few WP sites, seems to be pretty easy so farI intend to provide hosting services as a value add to our website clients - I'm not necessarily trying to start a hosting-only company and compete w those who are providing WP hosting at broad scale.
