VPS or Managed Dedicated server for Woocommerce ? What is your choice and how much do you pay monthly ? Can you help me choose please ?
There is no right or one size fits all answer for this question. It entirely depends on your use case. For example, if you have higher load (e.g. 1000s of concurrent users) you not only need horizontal scale (i.e. More servers working in parallel on a load balancer) but you also need a database capable of high load, with fail over to match

On the other end of the scale, if you are just starting out, ANY decent provider )even on a shared server) is perfectly adequate. Loads of first time users making the mistake of spinning up a VPS, which they have no idea how to properly tune and admin, and then pay over the odds for the same performance they could be getting out of shared server on equivalent load

**Load is the key word here Again, I've seen many clients keep scaling up on single servers, when they A) should be scaling horizontally and/or B) the issue is a bottleneck in the codebase or database. Simple stuff like a code review, or a REDIS instance can supercharge even the slowest of sites

Of course, people will answer with "I use X provider with Y VPS with B Ram" but this effectively plucking stats from thin air

**It's utterly meaningless without a lot more information
If you wanted the barebones TL;DR:
Use a shared server until you have issues. This will save you money, test your store concept and get money in the door

Diagnose those issues, understand WHY you need to move to a VPS or similar (A site being slow IS NOT a reason. You need to know
WHYit's slow)
Move to a managed VPS unless you have a strong knowledge of setting up a landscape (And by strong, I mean you understand server architecture, tuning etc)

Completely disagree. There is no such thing as good shared hosting. There is only bad and worse. The difference in price between shared and a basic VPS on Cloudways is maybe $20-30/month. If you can't afford spending a little extra to do it right, you don't have a business, you have a hobby. Run it like a business if you intend to make money

2. Diagnose those issues, understand WHY you need to move to a VPS or similar (A site being slow IS NOT a reason. You need to know WHY it's slow)

I agree with the sentiment, but there is no reason for the website owner to have the expertise to figure this out. Any reputable VPS provider cam give you the correct recommendation

3. Move to a managed VPS unless you have a strong knowledge of setting up a landscape (And by strong, I mean you understand server architecture, tuning etc)
Why? That's what system admins are for. My company manages dozens of high traffic and mission critical sites. I'm probably the only one that has even done anything on the command line, and I don't touch our VPSes. Once again, and reputable VPS provider can do this for you

Can you go direct to AWS, Google Cloud, Vultr, or Digital Ocean and save a few dollars? Sure. But now you have to waste valuable time messing with servers. Your time is better spent working on the site or marketing. Let the experts run the servers. The cost is negligible if you're running a business. Never do something yourself when you can pay an expert much less than your hourly value to do for you
