= GTMerix scores and speeds slower with managed VPS vs A2 shared hosting? Does that sounds right? =

Ran some tests on a clone of the same site hosted on a managed VPS with CW and then A2 shared hosting.

The load time is almost a second faster among other stats with A2 shared vs the VPS.

I'm new to VPS' so i've gone with the managed one, but i feel like performance should have been better on a VPS?

"Managed VPS" does not mean that they will do optimizations to make your site faster. It's more like "Hey, MySQL crashed, can you check that for me?" or "Apache is acting up lately, what's going on?"

This is in contrast with a regular VPS, whereas the above actions would have to be undertaken by you or someone you hire, since the provider will only rent you a machine and you will do all the rest.

You will have to take steps to optimize your server and your site so it loads faster. For instance: I have seen people recommending the use of tools such as Redis, Nginx, FastCGI cache, and perhaps in combination with some plugin with Wordpress if your site was made using it.

However this is not something that you just click a couple of buttons, run some simple commands and its done. This is usually technical stuff that should be done by people who know what they're doing, otherwise your site will perform just like before or even worse.

If you don't have the skills to do it and/or don't have the budget to hire someone to do it for you, then it's best if you simply sign up for a managed Wordpress hosting service (if your site was made using Wordpress). This kind of service really focuses on performance without bothering you with the tech aspects of it.
