Sssooo is there custom software on there that can’t work with newer OS, should be updating every 5 years at least.

You can use the ancient archive from httpsbuild.openvpn.net/downloads/releases/ then

tar xfz openvpn-[version].tar.gz

and

./configure make make install

However, the older cipher might be not supported by newer clients, and in general using an unsupported OS like Ubuntu 15 (Ubuntu 14.04 is

*still* supported through ESM) is a bad idea if you need the security from VPN. Also if it's OpenVZ, see the workaround in httpsgithub.com/angristan/openvpn-install/blob/master/openvpn-install.(or just use that script in the first place, since it state it support Centos 7.

so which os is better to install the open vpn (less complicated )ubuntu 14 - centos 6 - centos 7 - debian 6
