= Looking for free VPS hosting? READ THIS! =

I've seen a lot of posts looking for free or cheap VPS hosting, here are some options that can suit most people's needs! This is a long post but you should read on as it contains a lot of important information for those looking into getting a VPS, especially for free, and what to avoid to prevent getting scammed

The first option I'd recommend would be (my own) ELECTROHAXZ Hosting for a few simple reasons. We provide the most resources for free, we care about your privacy, and you should get the most resources for your money, even if that's $0. We provide US based VPS hosting on our own hardware with better specifications than other free plans (at least any that I know of)

Many commonly recommended ones are AWS, GCP, Azure, IBM, Oracle, etc which provide usually quite limited resources or only offer a trial/credit for a short period of time. These can work if you don't mind forking over payment details and risking being charged if you use more than the low resources they provide, but it's not ideal. (Disclaimer: This is mine, but I'm not biased, I'm simply comparing specifications and service provided and I recommend you do the same when picking a host!)
Our free plan isn't a limited trial or time limited and we've been offering the free plan specifically for multiple years now. We provide up to 16 cores, 32gb of RAM, and up to 25 Gbps network with unlimited (fair use) bandwidth allowance on the free plan (as well as low cost paid plans if you need more resources)

We never resell to or from anyone, we own all our hardware, hosted in our own privately owned locations. Nobody else has control over your data since it's on our hardware alone. Due to this, we can provide a better free plan as well as lower cost paid plans than most other US VPS hosting providers

We make the majority of our profit from paid plans, and never from harvesting your data, ads, or other scammy practices. We also never require any payment information for the free plan, never inject or serve ads, or modify your hosted content like many free web hosting providers like to do. I believe that privacy is important and should be the default for everyone, which is why we accept privacy respecting payment methods such as cryptocurrency for paid plans if the free plan isn't suitable for your needs

To learn about our free plan, how we can provide that, and how it works, see our page explaining all of that here!

I'd recommend you read there to learn how it works (and how we can provide such) as transparency is important to us!
For more general information about our services such as paid plans, FAQ, OS choice, etc, see our homepage here!
Other options include Google Cloud, Azure, AWS, Oracle, and IBM, as well as some that provide trials such as DigitalOcean, Ionos, and many more. All of those require payment information even for the free plan and provide much less resources for free, but are options to be considered if you're okay with getting less resources and the risk of being charged money if you exceed the free limits. Keep in mind that some of them only provide the free plan for a year as well, not forever

Also beware of many scam sites which claim to offer free web or VPS hosting that seem too good to be true (such as all plans are free regardless of specs, and no way for them to make profit) Free plans will always almost have a catch since running servers to power those costs money. Some scam sites in particular to avoid are vpswala, ohosti, gratisvps, baehost, woomhost, alavps, freevpshosti, and many more. If a website claims to provide a free service but asks for your payment details and personal information such as name, address, bank account information, etc, be wary and do your research. Just consider why a free service would require payment information and/or your personal information

Another common thing you'll find is videos and tutorials on how to supposedly get free hosting with unrealistic specifications or claiming to be "lifetime". All of these fall under 4 categories

One is tutorials on how to get started with legitimate (but limited) free plans from legitimate providers that offer free plans such as Google Cloud, Azure, AWS, and others

The second type are all based on abusing/misusing a free service to gain shell/SSH access or run a remote access server which they claim to be a VPS. These are very common on YouTube and on many online forums. Such generally use services like github, cloud shells from various providers like google or IBM, or free plans of web IDEs (such as cs50, goormide, repl, glitch, hosted Jupyter services like deepnote, etc), and streaming services that let you watch content with others by streaming a browser session on a remote server to all users (such as rabb.it, watch2gether, streamparty, kast, etc) Many of those services can be useful for their original purpose (such as cloud shell or web IDEs) but these are all a waste of time and effort for any actual hosting. While some of these may give you access to a shell or a desktop for a short period of time, NONE of them will give you a VPS for long term use. Your session will beas soon as you close your browser or within no more than a few hours. At most you'll get a couple hours on a host with no open ports and often without root access. Many of those tutorials also promote actions that are against the terms of service of those websites which means your account (and therefore any hosted data) can be deleted at any time

The third common type you might find is videos or posts abusing free trials or credits to get a VPS. These all require payment methods because they're not free. Entering fake payment information will likely fail, or if it does go through, your VPS will be terminated by the provider for using fake payment details/non payment. It's not advised to do this since your data can be lost at any moment when the provider notices and gives you the boot

The fourth and last are generally just the videos recommending the completely fake providers that I mentioned above (vpswala, ohosti, gratisvps, baehost, etc). These videos only serve to drive traffic to their scam sites to get ad revenue (from both the video and ads on their site) and to collect your data you enter on their site. You'll notice that NOBODY ever actually has any VPS from these scam companies in those videos, because they never provide any to begin with. Emit Reviews made an excellent video covering some of these completely fake scam providers here which I'd recommend watching if you're interested in more about them

You should consider your needs to determine what amount of resources you need for your projects/apps and then have a look at the options I mentioned. Stay safe and happy hosting!
