In this tutorial I will explain how
**create a free VPS for** 12 months to be able to deploy, among other things, a node to create a cryptocurrency. It can be done without any programming knowledge and it takes about 30 minutes to get it up and running. Therefore, it can be said that it is a quick, simple and easy process

**What is a VPS
A VPS (virtual private server) is a partition of a physical server that works independently. That is, a company that has a large physical server can split it into several VPS to sell it to its clients

The small VPSs work as independent virtual computers and, in addition, each server can have its independent operating system and be rebooted in an isolated manner

Some of the most frequent uses are the following: web hosting, cryptocurrency node hosting, virtual computer to run applications in the cloud, etc

**What are the advantages of creating a VPS
Among other things, the main advantages of a VPS are the following:
- Allows running programs 24 hours a day without the need to have the computer plugged in

- It can be used as hosting or as web application hosting

- It is useful to manage applications in the cloud that require Internet access

- Easily controlled from a remote desktop

**Create a free VPS on Amazon**
To create a free VPS for 12 months you must create an Amazon AWS account and add a credit card as a form of payment. After 12 months they will start charging you for the services automatically (in case you don't realize it, it's not much either, about $20/month)

**Create free Amazon AWS account**
In order to create the account, Amazon will ask for an email, an address, a payment method and a mobile phone. Once all the forms have been completed, you will receive a confirmation email in the mail

**Access the AWS account created and select the country of the instance**
It is accessed with the email that has been used to create the account. It is essential to access the account to be able to launch the instance that will be used to create a VPS

Once in the account, we must select, in the upper right corner, the country where we want the virtual private server to be hosted. It is from the selected country that you will access the Internet. Therefore, in cases of being used for hosting, it is really important to select the country where we want to host the website

**Configure the VPS**
The first step is
select the operating system (Linux or Windows) and the version. at the time of

choosing an operating system it is important to make sure that it is free (Free tier
eligible). To make the tutorial I have chosen
**Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Base** 64-bit

In the next step you have to select the number of cores and the ram memory of the machine. Only the 1 CPU and 1 Gb option is free. Also, to start getting familiar with virtual private servers is enough

In the last step you just have to check that all the data is correct. Finally, click on the “Launch” button

Before creating the VPS it is necessary to save the file with the access codes. This option will appear in a pop-up window after you have pressed the “launch” button

It is important to keep the file in a safe place, as it will allow you to obtain the remote desktop access password

After a few minutes, the instance will appear in the console as created

**Download remote desktop and get VPS access password**
Once the VPS is created, you have to access the Instances section and click on “Connect”

The first button allows you to download the remote desktop to access the virtual private server. Once downloaded, you have to get the password by pressing the second button

To obtain the password, the file containing the keys must be decrypted (it was downloaded in the previous step). This file contains the keys that encrypt the information that flows between the VPS and your computer

Once the file is uploaded, the web application will display the password and username to access the VPS

**Access the VPS**
The process is very simple, since all you have to do is open the remote desktop and access it with the password obtained in the previous step

Finally, the virtual private server will appear, as it appears in the image above.
