= All cPanel VPS customers will see a boost in license fees. =

I've been using Knownhost for many years, for many sites. According to an email this morning, all cPanel VPS customers will experience a $6 per month increase in cPanel license fees

We want to thank you for being a valued member of the KnownHost family

On June 27th, 2019 cPanel announced a massive shift in how license prices were calculated and how cPanel licenses were sold swapping to an 'account based license'. During this process, cPanel also initiated a provision in our contract that allowed them to invalidate the previous pricing agreement which was negotiated to lock in prices until September 2023

It would be an understatement to say this change has created quite a shock across the web hosting community in general. Since this announcement we have worked tirelessly with cPanel in an attempt to either reverse or mitigate the impact on our customers as much as possible. Sadly, cPanel, now owned by a venture capital investment firm, has made few changes and little concessions when it comes to the pricing of their product

Yep, already converted one of my VPSs to DirectAdmin. I am not going to pay $15/mo extra to licence cPanel on a $30/mo VPS

It's not nearly as convenient as cPanel, Let's Encrypt SSL administration is a pain, you gotta edit the .config files via SSH & PUTTY rather than a web interface, but at least it is fully featured and well documented, if it can save me 33% off my hosting bill I am willing to deal with it

Due note if you are thinking of switching do avoid PLESK as the owners of PLESK are the same VC firm that bought Cpanel

Well, I already moved all my sites to dedicated vps'es with a roots trellis setup. Yes, you will need to learn a bit, but if you're using a VPS already you should know how things work in the background, imho

If you use the cpanel vps just to manage your customers and they don't really have or need access to a panel, this might be a option for you

My resource consumption has dropped drastically and sites load way quicker. Overall the whole roots stack increased my knowledge of Wordpress and proper hosting setups and I feel more confident delivering quality service to my clients
