= VPS with cPanel pre-installed/pre-licensed =

Hi, I'm looking to migrate from a web hosting provider that uses cPanel and jailed shell access to hosting my own cPanel install on a virtual private server where I have full control. The current web hosting provider botched an upgrade/migration and my main database was lost (I have a 1 day old backup, but this is really unacceptable). I want full control of cPanel and the entire machine so I would rather host it myself on a virtual private server rather than paying for it as a service

Do you have recommendations for providers that already give you a somewhat pre-configured and pre-licensed cPanel instance? Current provider runs Linux (Red Hat based), Apache, MySQL and PHP (I was on 7.1). Thank you

How comfortable are you managing Linux?
Why not go for a shared host that backs up hourly for example and leave the heavy work to them?
You're going to be paying A LOT more money to have a cPanel licence on your own VPS

Your VPS provider isn't going to provide assistance with WHM issues that you *are* going to come across unless it's a managed server too

For example: httpscpanel.net/pricing/
$15 and above - dependant on amount of websites - just for the licence cost before you add in VPS costs and off-site storage costs (because you should be having your backups separate to your server)

Hi, you need a lot of knowledge to configure the server itself, especially for security. I suggest you to use managed hosting with cPanel or StackCP, the most popular company for StackCP is 20i.com and host2goo.com. Server is powered by high ability Google cloud. For whm/cPanel you have a lot of different companies. But always use cloudflare, because almost all whm/cPanel have no integrated security. Good luck :D
Update:
Now I get what you all mean about managing cPanel. It’s more work self-hosting WHM/cPanel for a single account than just setting up a regular server. Just so you get a better idea of why I went this way I’m helping my step-father with his small business. He has a web application that he has built up over the two years on a cPanel hosting provider. Now he has customers and it’s starting to get more serious as a business

He is the developer for the app. He doesn’t know enough Linux to manage a LAMP stack (I do), but he needs the ability to manage his DB, upload files, manage domains, etc. in an easy way, daily. The app is under heavy development so the dev environment sees a lot of changes. I can’t work full time with him, I have a full time job and the business is not large enough to support me I think. It makes for a great CV though!
What I can do is set up the infrastructure that he can use daily and maintain that infrastructure on the weekends and during emergencies. That way, the daily development work can happen with him on his own, we have greater control over his platform and we can get around some artificial limitations set by the previous hosting company such as # of daily emails (this app relies a lot on email for notifications)

This system will probably outgrow cPanel at some point (think high availability, etc but we have full control of the machines. When the day comes, we can migrate out of there completely
