= Dedicated server vs VPS + drive =

I am fairly new to running my own services. I am looking to setup something that runs a wide variety of self hosted apps. I’ve managed to get a decent dedicated server with 50TB disks. Now I stumbled onto info that says I could possibly use a VPS with my enterprise gdrive account with unlimited storage. I don’t think I’ll ever use it more than the 750 go limit per day.

Now I was hoping to get some feedback on whether I should stick to the dedi or switch to the VPS+gdrive at fraction of the cost. Are there any advantages/disadvantages with one over the other?

Depends what you store on it. If you sail the high seas, Google will automatically detect copyrighted material like movies or TV shows.

But it is possible to instead get yourself a storage box from say hetzner that you could mount on a VPS to do the same thing!

Several posts in r/seedboxes make it seem like it’s not an issue. Not sure though

Are you hosting plex? a vps might not be able to handle multiple transcodes.

Have you considered just getting a static IP from your ISP and hosting on a spare computer?
