I use digital ocean for almost everything these days. It doesn't have the specialized nodes that Amazon has, but for a fraction of the price you really can't beat it

I spawn their $5 nodes like popcorncurrently running 3 of them, and one of their $40/mo 4 GB servers for httpimgn.io
Great service, I highly recommend them

ALSO if you're a linux noob like me, there are tons of tutorials under the DigitalOcean domain for setting up servers. More often than not I can type my linux questions into google and append "digitalocean" and find a well written, moderated, tutorial on the matter

Seconding Digital Ocean! You just can't beat that $5/mo pre-rolled Django instance

They'reclever with turning themselves into a little knowledge base of server how-to. Them holding my nooby hands though my first server setup has left me with something approaching brand loyalty

A few months ago I decided to stop spending $20 a month for a static IP so I could run my own Web server at home, and instead spend $10 a month for a VPS at Digital Ocean. After a couple initial snags setting up the machine, which were entirely my fault due to Linux n00bness, I'm completely happy with them

I started using Digital Ocean as my testbed and now it has actually become our production because it was working so well. I started using them based on every question I typed in came back as one of their tutorials so gave it a shot and have been very happy so far. One thing I would like to be able to do is save local image but haven't figured out how yet

httpswww.vultr.com/ - $5/mo (15 GB SSD, 1 TB transfer, 768MB memory) slightly more memory then DigitalOcean
httpseducation.github.com/pack - provides $100 in credit for Digital Ocean
httpswww.ramnode.com/ - low as $15/year
httpwww.kimsufi.com/us/en/ cheap dedicated hosting
